Countywide Business News:

Below is a roundup of recent business expansions in or relocations to Lake County.  In most cases, Lake County Partners has worked with these companies to educate them about available incentives, facilitate assistance from governmental entities, and/or conduct business retention calls to discuss corporate needs.


Mondalez International Locates in Lake County

Mondalez International, Inc., the snack foods spin-off resulting from Kraft Foods’ division, plans to move its headquarters to a 105,000-square foot space in 3 Parkway Blvd. North in Deerfield.  LCP assisted in facilitating incentives that led to the company’s decision to move to Lake County. About 400 Mondelez employees are expected to work there.

Kraft recently divided its operations into a North American grocery company, Kraft Foods Group, and Mondalez, which specializes in global snack food manufacturing operations.

Sysmex America, Inc.

Sysmex America, Inc., headquartered in Mundelein, is in the midst of construction work for its expansion into 162,000 square feet of leased office space in Lincolnshire. The company also added 147,000 square feet of space in Buffalo Grove. The company will retain its Mundelein offices and manufacturing plant, where it employs about 700 people. LCP assisted Sysmex in its expansion planning.

Sysmex is a global leader in medical diagnostic testing equipment and information systems technology and services hospitals and health care networks, reference laboratories and physicians offices worldwide.

Walgreens Planning Expansions, Renovations of Facilities

Walgreens Co. plans to invest $75 million to expand and renovate more than two dozen of its corporate offices, most of which are in Lake County, creating more than 500 jobs over the next three years. The new jobs, which are corporate positions, will focus heavily on supporting Walgreens' online business and its pharmacy, health and wellness services.

Walgreens' corporate workforce is housed in 27 different office buildings in Deerfield (corporate headquarters), Buffalo Grove, Lincolnshire, Bannockburn, Northbrook, Mt. Prospect, Northlake and Chicago, according to the state. The company's investment will be used to retrofit disparate offices and make it easier for workers to travel between buildings. Walgreens employs more than 5,000 people in Illinois.

Baxter International Expanding in County, Nation

Baxter International, Inc., headquartered in Deerfield, announced this summer that it plans to add more than 200 new jobs at its manufacturing center in Round Lake. The expansion will support increased production of Flexbumin, its plasma-based treatment used for patients suffering from shock, blood loss or severe burns.The international company also announced its plans to spend up to $1 billion over the next five years to open a new production center near Atlanta that will employ more than 1,500 workers.

Lake Forest Hatches New Business

The City of Lake Forest recently launched a Business & Technology Incubator at the Gorton Community Center for local entrepreneurs, students, and Lake Forest residents with business ideas.  The Incubator currently houses five businesses in 600 square feet.

The Incubator is a City-sponsored program to create jobs and economic development opportunities in Lake Forest. The Incubator offers shared workspace, free Wi-Fi, networking with investors, local financial resources, monthly brown bag lunches with community experts, access to educational institutions and city support. Starting in September, the programming will expand to offer one-on-one consulting services and a Small Business CEO Advisory Board.

MBX Systems Relocates to Libertyville

MBX Systems recently purchased a former Motorola facility in Libertyville for its new headquarters and manufacturing facility. The company is currently renovating the 84,000-square-foot building, located at 1200 Technology Way in Libertyville.

MBX Systems, a manufacturer of custom-built server appliances for software companies, is relocating to Libertyville to meet the space requirements of the company’s expected growth. Established in 1995, MBX has grown annually and has hired 17 new employees already in 2012.


Eirich Machines Expands in Gurnee

Eirich Machines, an American subsidiary of a German company, recently expanded its operations in Gurnee by purchasing the building next door, with plans to convert the facility into a laboratory and/or testing facility. The 30,000 s.f. building is located at 3982 Ryan  Road, next to its current location at 4033 Ryan.

Eirich is a leading manufacturer of high quality mixers, dryers, reactors, and ancillary equipment for a wide range of industrial uses, from foundries to pharmaceuticals.


Alter’s Cornerstone Development in Planning

Cornerstone, a 640-acre development by the Alter Group in western Lake County, is “on schedule” with moving toward completing its permit and approval phase with the Village of Grayslake, Lake County, and state of Illinois. Cornerstone is expected to include 3.6 million square feet of office, industrial and R&D space; 600,000 square feet of retail and lifestyle shopping, and 801 residences. Alter says the development will bring 17,000 jobs to Lake County. The project is expected to take about 12 years to build out, once construction begins.
